Above is one of my favorite indie bookstores, Kepler’s in Menlo Park, CA. It also happens to be the location of many fantastic literary events through its nonprofit arm and where I read at Story is the Thing last October.
Last year was the first I learned that the last Saturday in April is Independent Bookstore Day.
I used the incredibly handy interactive map to help me plan my independent bookstore tour when I launched Tiny Shoes Dancing and Other Stories last summer.
Now the day is here again. If you’re thinking of getting a copy of any of my books—or, really, any books—show some love to your local independent bookstore by buying through them. Most don’t stock my books but any of them can order a copy of Tiny Shoes Dancing or What Remains Unsaid through IndieBound.
And even if you’re not in a buying mood, you might want to pay your local store a visit. Many have fun book-related events and activities planned.
What’s your favorite independent bookstore?
