I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions.
I’ve made my share of year-end commitments over the years (write more, connect with book clubs). Mostly, these commitments helped me pay attention to things I might otherwise have forgotten about in the swirl of daily life.
This year, I am making a public commitment and inviting you to come along with me.
I want to make this a year of discovery.
I’m not sure exactly how this will unfold. For a while, I’ve felt in need of something to wrest me from the comfortable grooves (ruts?) of daily life. Although I accomplished a lot in 2019, the contours of each day feel startlingly similar.
I will divide 2020 into 12 segments, conveniently corresponding to the months, each with a different theme. Every day, I’ll share an idea, photograph, quote, or link on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook related to that theme.
January is “learn about something new” month because, although I haven’t been to school in decades, I hope I’m not too old to be a student. I haven’t figured out all the months’ themes yet, so if you have suggestions, please let me know!
P.S. For those of you allergic to social media, I’ll publish a monthly blog post recapping what I’ve shared. Subscribe to get updates.
